A landfill site constructed in 23 bigha land has come into operation at Hirminiya of Nepalgunj Sub-metropolitan City.
Province 5 Minister of Urban Development Mohammad Estiyak Rai inaugurated the landfill site today.
The site was constructed at a cost of Rs 380 million with financial assistance from Asian Development Bank. This is the first model landfill site in Nepal, it has been reported.
Inaugurating the landfill site, Minister Rai said that the landfill site would resolve waste management problem in Nepalgunj. The minister said that he was actively working for the overall development of Banke.
The landfill site has the system of segregating garbage and a tank to store waste coming from toilets in Nepalgunj sub-metropolis. As many as 12 e-rickshaws have been brought to the site.
Similarly, 11,000 dustbins have been bought to collect litter. Four vehicles have reached the landfill site, said Mayor Dr Dhawal Shumsher Rana.
The sub-metropolis is preparing to distribute dustbins to every household.
